Limited or no connectivity through modem

    Ok i have a wireless network, my parents have their laptop and the network is ran through my desktop comp. so im hard wire connected through the router. but when i try to connect directly to the cable modem i get limited or no connectivity. i have tired connecting with a usb cable and a network cable both the same. any help would be nice.
