Limmiting Network Bandwidth per port

Ok well here's my issue. I have a D-Link router and share the internet with my sister.

The thing is, she downloads files like mad, it always slows my connection down.

I was wondering if there is anything I can do to limit her bandwidth to keep my machine from suffering. Anything I can do whether it be to the router or to her computer itself.

First thing you should do: talk to your sister and ask her to put some limits on her downloader programs. They all feature bandwidth and time restrictions.

I'm sure you download things at full speed sometimes too It is always better to compromise on something instead of screwing other people over.

If your router supports traffic shaping, then you can enable it and choke her computer any way you like.

I'm not really trying to strangle her. I don't do downloading nearly as much as I used to.

I just want to have her limit to 75% of the connection, to leave 25% for me for my browsing and online work.
