Linking A windows Xp And 2000 computer through a hub

hi.Heres the problem, i have a windows xp computer and a computer running 2000. im trying to link the 2 together through a linksys 5 port hub. when the internet conection is plugged into the uplink and the other 2 ethernets are pluged into the ports neither seem to have any internet connection at all and the uplink light is flashing indicating that its working fine.But when the modem is pluged into a non uplink port and one of the computers is plugged into the uplink it sends fine. also when another ethernet is plugged in the computer has no connection at all. Please help im desperate. Thanks

Is it really a hub? Hubs, switches and routers are very different kinds of devices.

If it is really a hub, then you have to pay careful attention to crossover/straight cables and make sure all your networking devices are operating at half duplex.
