Linksys WRT54G Wireless--Cannot Create Network--XP Issues??

I purchased Linksys wireless router and am unable to set up network connections to share files.

PC is wired to wrt54g port 2, laptop is connected via wireless link. Signal is strong.

Computers cannot seem to communicate through XP. Cannot ping either computer from the other. Both can access the internet. Have spent hours with Linksys help and they now say problem is with XP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can see from the posts that my trouble with Linksys is not unique.

Thanks

Ok, leave your WEP/WPA settings alone if you're connecting to the Internet.

As you're behind the router, you can safely turn off all firewalls and try to PING
each other. If this works, the FW needs some configuring. If not, TCP needs
some config work.

Once you can PING with the firewall active, you need to enable Print/file sharing too.

Then you can setup folders for sharing and add shared printers.
