logging to windows messenger

hi everyone,
does anyone know how to logon to windows messenger (not msn messenger). my son has been trying to use windows messenger. he's tried putting his msn email, and his win-xp userid, and password from hotmail. but it's asking for a domain, and says:
the email, user id and password that you're using is not the same as the person using this computer.
any suggestions?

after getting this .net, what should i type for:
email?
user id?
password? (hotmail password? xp password? or what)?
domain?
when i try anything, it says, the email and user id that you entered does not match the email and user id of person using this computer.
any suggestions?

i tried it. it didn't work.
for email, i put my hotmail email account
for user name, i put my hotmail email account
for password, i put my hotmail password
i left domain blank
id didn't work.
any suggestions?


my hotmail account is active
i also got a .net passport.
