Looking for compatable video card

I have a desktop using the Radeon HD7540D card which works with my existing monitor. However, I recently purchased a Samsung Series 45 32" monitor which does not recognize any signal from my desktop, even when I attach a VGA to HDMI output 1080HD adaptor.
The monitor works just great when I connect it via an HDMI cable to my laptop HDMI port.
Is there another video card I should be using to allow it to see my desktop?
