Lost Sound!

MY Altec Lansing speakers are hooked to my 6 yr. old Dell and have been using Windows ME for 6 years with no sound problems. Gradually past year the volume has been too low, and last week, just quit. I have checked plugs, volume controls, device manager and don't know what else. THe SBLIve driver seems to be the latest and didn't need updating. ANy thoughts?Appreciate any directions.

First thing to try is another set of speakers, just to rule them out as the source of your problem.

No Sound!!

THanks for the tip. I checked my speakers out with my Panasonic portable CD player and only one speaker worked, with good volume. I wonder if the second speaker is at fault, or I haven't got connections right with the CD player. Will check out manual. Don't have a second pair of portable speakers handy.
