    hello

    specs
    xp pro sp3
    open suse 11.1
    intel 3.0 ghz 512 cache
80 gb maxtor drive + 60 gb western digital drive
    dvd reader + dvd/cd/etc burner
    floppy dive

i just recently recovered from a serious virus, trojan and root kit

i can not run any .msc commands, (however i can rum mmc and add the things as snap ins but i can not save it), also can not run device manager and windows restore

also when tying to register some dll's (mainly msxml ones) is will give me an error

also installing intellytype\ intellymouse does not start after install

also certain keys in the registry are corrupt and i can not remove them

also doing a clean install of windows (reformatting drive, then installing windows) would be a pain to do (136 gb of data) but would do in dire case

thank you in advance for any one to look at my problems

Let me add my 2ยข. Despite the pain of copying 136GB of data, you should do it anyway. You need to routinely back up your data since a hard drive failure could cause the loss of your data. So then, if your data is backed up, you might consider a clean reinstall of Windows after all. I realize that reinstalling Windows is often a last resort but sometimes it's easier in the long run. Maybe this is one of those times. Just saying.

I always lean toward the "clean Windows install option" Mailpup. An exception would be the possible loss of important expensive programs
  5. mailpup TechSpot Special Forces

Yup. Just to clarify, when I said clean reinstall I meant clean install, of course. While there is nothing wrong with trying the 8 steps solution, unless there is a compelling reason not to (such as what Tmagic50 mentioned), sometimes it's just better to do a clean install. Given your situation, IMHO, this seems like one of those times.

i have adobe cs4 master edition so ya allot of money

but i could go by a new drive (1 tb) and partion it to two drives

or buy a new primary drive (300 gb) and then get my data of my current primary drive (80 gb) and then wipe it clean and use it as my secondary drive
  7. Tmagic650 TechSpot Ambassador

    Yes pvibien,
you can do that, but be aware that some saved files may still be infected. You can easily scan and clean a secondary drive without infecting the C drive
  8. pvibien Newcomer, in training

yes but still that is allot of data but i am actually only thinking of copying the account folder (C:\Documents and Settings\PHILIPPE10.Philippe) and then just switch the current secondary drive which really contains allot of the install files for the programs and backup of some files on the main drive and i do raid 1 on the primary drive but that might be infected
  9. Bobbye Helper on the Fringe

pvibien, before you go out and buy any replacements, let's see what the problem is:

    1. What infection(s) did you have?
    2. What did you do to get rid of them?
    3. What did you do to confirm they were gone?
    4. Do you have the CD for the Windows XP OS?
    5.
Specifically, what are you trying to register? Why are you trying to register the files?
    6. What security programs do you now have on the system? Have you scanned with them recently?

It sounds very much like you still have the bad stuff lurking-or-if you got rid of it, it damaged files/folders while on the system.

    1 was a rootkit and win32.tdss.ntf
2 i know that win32.tdss.ntf is gone but rootkit is probably still their
    3 spybot for Win32.....
4 yes, pro with on it sp3
5 the msxml files, tyring to renable .msc programs
6 norton 360, spy bot, malewarebytes, combofix

"2. I know that win32.tdss.ntf is gone, but rootkit is probably still there"...

How do you know it is still there? Is your antivirus or antimalware program still detecting it?
  12. Bobbye Helper on the Fringe

I doubt you have 'recovered.' I cannot help you with malware but I can suggest you find a board with a trained malware helper. You did not tell me what you ran to try and remove these however I doubt that Spybot would be sufficient to give you an 'all clear'.

I suspect that #5 is due to file damage. You can try running the System File Checker. Directions are in Post #1 here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic43051.html

Further options for a repair are here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/support/nostart.mspx

Normally I would send you to go through the thread Tmagic mentioned, but there is no one working now who can help with the logs. That's temporary, but longer than you need.

Suggest you not use Combofix unless your helper tells you to and gives you guidance. It's not a program to 'try out.'

i really just want to fix the intelypoint and intely type software and aslo fix the the mmc .msc problems
  14. raybay TechSpot Addict

First, you need to be sure your computer has been rendered free of infestations by the above guides on 8 steps, or run Avira or Avast, and at least two of these: MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Spy Sweeper, Spyware Doctor, ComboFix...
After initial scans, run those that will work in SAFE Mode one more time.
You have a lot of good advice above by Bobbye, TMagic650 (two of our premier techs) and others... very wise to use it before you go off on other tangents.
  15. Bobbye Helper on the Fringe

    Reasonable assessment of what's wrong:

    1. You still have the malware and/or
    2. Major filed have been damaged.

Reasonable suggestions for fix, as previously said:

    1. Go to a board where someone can help you check the system for remaining malware.
    2. Use System File Checker to try and repair damaged files.
    3. Do a reformat/reinstall.

Maybe just one will work- maybe you will have to end up doing all 3.

"Go to a board where someone can help you check the system for remaining malware"

but i am thinking it is problems relating to rements such as registry keys blocking mmc i know there is no malaware because no more pup ups and when i had the root kit i could not access flash drives know i can
  17. pvibien Newcomer, in training

and do you guys want any logs
  18. Bobbye Helper on the Fringe

pvibien, at this time, there are no trained malware helpers working. We're all getting more training and cannot help at this time.

Based on the symptoms I quoted, I gave you my best suggestion. It's your call.

I cannot help with the logs.
  19. pvibien Newcomer, in training

i did a repair install to windows so now mmc and all .msc things work and i fully installed the intellypiont\type software

but now security center does no start and win update does not work either
when i open security center is says that the sevice can not start

when i go to service to start is it gives me this

(Error 1075 The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion)

    Format and reinstall Windows fresh
