Massive adult website blocks North Carolina residents in anti-LGBT law protest

Earlier this month, it was reported that PayPal had cancelled its plans to open a global operations center in Charlotte, North Carolina, as a protest against the state’s recently passed anti-LGBT law. Now, another firm is taking a stand against House Bill 2. This time, it’s adult website xHamster, which is blocking all North Carolina IP addresses from accessing its content.

The controversial law supersedes ordinances protecting LGBT people from discrimination and prevents transgender people from using bathrooms and locker rooms that do not match the gender on their birth certificates. A number of companies, including Google, Facebook, Apple, and IBM, have spoken out against theHouse Bill 2, and more than 80 CEOs signed a letter to North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory, urging him to repeal it.

In addition to denying North Carolina residents access to its mountains of porn, xHamster – which is one of the biggest websites of its kind and ranked 91st most popular site in the world – is presenting residents of the state with an informative popup that shows some of the searches performed by certain North Carolinians.

"We have spent the last 50 years fighting for equality for everyone and these laws are discriminatory which xHamster.com does not tolerate," an xHamster spokesperson said in a statement to the Huffington Post. " As of today, access to XHamster.com is blacked out in the state of North Carolina until further notice. Judging by the stats of what you North Carolinians watch, we feel this punishment is a severe one. We will not standby and pump revenue into a system that promotes this type of garbage. We respect all sexualities and embrace them."

There are, of course, one or two other sites on the internet that provide this sort of material, but xHamster’s stance will no doubt help shine more light on the issue. With Bruce Springsteen cancelling his concert in Greensboro, a White House review, a pending federal lawsuit, and North Carolina’s suitability as a location for sporting events being called into question, could the power of protest result in the law being repealed?

I believe that our Constitution protects everybody, regardless of their sexual or orientation. I also believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. There is no reason why you can’t be perfectly fair to the gay community. They shouldn’t automatically assume because you believe that marriage is between one man and one woman that you are a homophobe. This is one of the myths that the left perpetrates on our society. This is how they frighten people and get people to shut up. Thats what the PC culture is all about and it’s destroying our nation. The fact of the matter is, we the American people, are not each other’s enemy. It is PEOPLE who are trying to divide us are our enemies and we need to make that very clear to everybody.

It is also worthwhile to note that PayPal and xHamster are not boycotting Middle Eastern countries that execute homosexuals on the basis of their sexuality. Only North Carolina is being targeted.

Their principles are entirely political fake.

I have no problem with the Ls, the Gs, or even the Bs, it's this latest category of people, the Ts, who think they should be allowed to go in to whatever bathroom they please, and they're the ones getting everyone up in arms. Homosexuals can coexist with straights, they use the right bathroom, it's those that want to be special and part of this Transgender movement, just go away, no body will miss you, more importantly NO BODY CARES!

Straight men just need to start claiming this **** to get into women's washrooms, then we'll see how long this BS last.

That's actually a great idea. The quickest way would be to start with the LGBT lobbyist wives*.

*assuming their wives are female

Your ignorance is showing lady. I had periods for 50 years. I had 3 children and breast fed them. I have now transitioned. Some trans people are female to male. Do some research before you shoot off your mouth about things you know nothing about.

While transgender people are a little extreme, as an argument about an older law we don't put anti gay laws in the constitution when murder isn't even in the constitution. This is extreme. For that matter, most laws are derived from the bible's commandments much less an obscure passage about laying down with a man in the bible. The new one says the bible is not going to be allowed in public schools, public libraries, and thus public law libraries due to seperation of church and state so I extend that to no laws should not be derived from it.

Need to change the headline - its a pro-religious liberty law primarily aimed at protecting the most abused and suppressed group in the world, Christians. Do you think anyone is going to force a Muslim business owner to provide service to trannies or allow them to pick their restroom? Yeah, we all know the answer on that one, so why not get on the right side of history and common sense? Change the headline.

This is the most hilariously stupid comment I have read on the subject. Virtually every common law on the (Western) books is derived from Biblically-informed moral principles. You're literally advocating for a lawless state.

Edit for the wise guy who points out western civ came first: Hyperboly.

So they are also blocking people who don't care or aren't against lgbt and live there. Seems reasonable.
Yeah. I'm sure that's the point they're making. And why did you read this article if you don't care about others' rights? Ah, never mind.

Being a peeping tom is already illegal, so your argument is invalid. This law is just fear-mongering gone too far, a concerted effort to manipulate NC'ians into thinking that transexuals are sexual deviants waiting to attack them in public restrooms. Don't be an ***** and buy into that flawed logic.

. . .it[']s a pro-religious liberty law primarily aimed at protecting the most abused and suppressed group in the world, Christians.
Wow.. just, wow.. Can you even hear yourself..? Christians abused and suppressed, in America? That's absolutely absurd. Try growing up atheist in a midwestern Christian community, where you get forced out of any community organization and get publicly ostracized for being different. I've grown to accept that, though, and I forgive them for their transgressions seemingly against the founding principles of their own religion. But to call them a victim here.. just, wow..

I believe that our Constitution protects everybody, regardless of their sexual or orientation. I also believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. . .
Then by your own logic, you shouldn't expect your religious views on marriage to be applied to everyone, right..?

As usual from a Christian tolerating base.. theres a lot of talk.. and very little action.. they are like prayers for the cancer ridden. Business people let me wake you up to a fact.. your words of recrimination did / do nothing to the bigot if they allowed to continue on with their intolerance. Pay Pal.. did somethng.. not words.. If the other business's wanted to really do something not just LOOK like they are.. they would make a move similar to Pay Pals.. they dont.. which means.. they condone by inaction.. I can scream all day long while watching someone kill another its wrong.. .. but until I take action.. My ideals are meaningless. Dont say your mad at NC big business .. prove it.. lose your profit there.

Anyone that really needs or needed a book to tell them killing is wrong is so stupid beyond belief that its no wonder religions were put in place to control them.
