Massive Steam / Half Life problem

By DenialTwist

  1. When I try to run any of the games included in Half Life 2 : Game of the Year edition via steam (the only way) I get an error message saying "Unable to load c:\Documents and settings\*user*\My Documents\steam\steamapps\*steamusername*\*nameofthegame*\bin\filesystem_steam.dll"
I never even got a chance to play them first...

    Try unistalling and installing again.

If you sign into your Steam account and click the Games tab, do the games you want to play show up as "Ready" or are they greyed out?

Was this steam package purchased online, or do you have CD installers?

I might suggest moving all the steam games from that folder to a backup somewhere, then have Steam re-download a game and see if it plays that way.

You could also run a validate on the files. Go to this url and click the relevent link to your games.

Hope that helps. Otherwise, have you search the Steam support? http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php

That move all the game files to a backup location worked great .Must have been a problem with the original cd I guess...
    thanks

I've had to do that once or twice on my own games. It's usually a mod or some addon that messed everything up.

Now back to work! I mean, play :)
