Maxtor External Power Failure

I have a Maxtor 160GB external usb which will not power up. I removed it from its case to plug it into the power supply on my mother board. As soon as I plugged it in my computer shut down. With Maxtor connected to the computer power supply the computer would not turn on. When I unplugged the Maxtor the computer powered up. This happened several times. Anyone know what is going on?

its buggered basically, maxtor should have a three year warranty. Check the serial number on the drive and check it out with Maxtor. A word of advice, its best not to attach devices to the power supply while the computer is on! :slurp:
