    Hi all,

Just got a Maxtor OneTouch III Drive and hooked it up to my laptop, using it in tandem with Norton Ghost 10... according to the packaging, the drive is "hot swappable" which means that it should be able to be ejected by going to "Safely remove hardware" then stopping the drive.

However, when I do so, I get a message saying "This device: generic volume cannot be stopped right now. Please try stopping the device again later."

It's recognized by my comp as a hard disk drive, not a removable storage... and I did install the maxtor software before I hooked up the drive.

I want to be able to eject the drive, if that's even possible.

    Please let me know,

you should be able to disconnect any portable hard drive without any problems, provided that the disk is not being accessed when you pull the plug. you do not need to go to 'safely remove hardware.'
