I'm using Windows XP and I noticed that McAfee anti-virus program is running on it and it seems to slow down some of my programs. So I go into the control panel and delete the program from the list. But the next time I turn on my unit its there again. No matter how many times I delete it is seems to always come back. Is there anything I can do about this? Do I need this program?

You can change to another anti-virus program if you want but it is absolutely essential that you have an AV program running all the time.

When going to the Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs, you are uninstalling a program, not deleting it! For your protection the anti-virus program is on your Startup tab. One you get another AV on board, you can stop the McAfee from starting up like this:

    Start> Run> type in 'msconfig' without quotes> enter> Selective Start=up> Start up tab> uncheck all McAfee processes> Apply> OK> Reboot.

Close the nag message that comes up after checking 'don't show this message again.'
