Need quick reply, if possible. I wanna put matched mem sticks in my new ASUS P5P800. I want 2GB.
Question 1: someone here said ASUS is really "picky" about memory. Can't find their QVL- how picky?
Question 2: any advantages/differences between 4x512MB and 2x1024MB?

Don't know about picky-ness, but I've used Patriot memory without a hitch on my A8N's.

Running 2x1024 allows you to add more memory later without scrapping your current dimms.

RTFM to determine what brands asus will accept.

yeah, right. Well- TFM says go to ASUS.com to get "updated list." Their site search doesn't recognize QVL. TFM also lists NO 1024MB sticks. Does that mean I have to use 512's? I know I'm new, but that doesn't necessarily mean "dolt." Sorry to be a bother.

if it doesn't list it - it probably won't accept it.

You'll have to use a listed brand.
