  1. Is fast memory speed a must for gaming, or can a large amount of memory make up for slower memory speed?

It makes up for it, but what exactly are the speeds and sizes?

I don't have any specifics in mind. My question was theoretical. However if you have some insight into theoretical ratios, or points of diminished return, please share.

You won't be able to tell the difference with faster memory. The speed difference isn't really noticeable. More memory is always better. XP's limit is 4GB.

Thanx Tedster, in that case my strategy will be to buy the most memory for the money.
