Microphone problem

Hey guys, recently i plugged in my clip-on microphone into my USB soundcard. Problem now is that even though my system reads that there is a microphone, no sound is being recorded. I've used this mic with other computers and it works just fine. So could anyone offer me some help? Thank you loads.

Is the microphone channel open?

In my experience Windows tries to disable/mute the microphone line at every opportunity, so that would be the first thing I'd try.

What program are you trying to record the sound with?

I use the mic to play counter-strike so i don't really use a program to record it. The mic channel is open and i've tried using other mics and other mics work but NOT this one.
