Microsoft finally admits its malware-like Windows 10 upgrade tricks "went too far"

And here in America we have a word for it 'Infringement'. Just because theft of intellectual property is embedded in your street vendors economic model and your country's methods doesn't make it morally correct or legal.
FYI, innovation is making something new, not stealing something from someone else, copying it, and reselling it as your own idea.
Most of what's called "infringement" isn't really. Half the reason infringement and copyright are even on the table these days, is because big vested rich and greedy interests bought their way into Congress, to make laws that help line their own pockets. To the detriment of everyone else - including you. To the point where, if you draw mickey mouse on a piece of paper, that's infringement as well. Just not enforcible, if you keep it private. But infringement it is. Copying is what humans do bruh and it's good.

If that's the definition of innovation, Apple owns some Koreans an apology I see ;D... Most of them do lmao.

Don't protect those greedy corps. They'd have you think pirates are bad too.

Did that get you 2k likes?
Actually, it didn't get me any. Maybe it's still a tad too abstract for a tech forum. I can still hope I'm able to offend the, "wow whee, Windows 10 is the best OS ever" fan boi crowd with it.

In other news, I don't think Verizon caps data on their home network. At least I've never been able to find or breech any limits. So, what's a data cap", was sort of a rhetorical question.

So when you say "most" you mean "all". You want stuff free. Probably because you don't know how to make money.

And no, that's not why it's on the table. It's on the table because Google stole from everyone and then sold links to what was stolen as advertising space. Microsoft and the first world didn't remotely believe the rest of the world considered "property rights" a negotiable (depends on what I can get away with) concept, so they didn't build well enough to protect themselves. Like most things, it used to be an honorable profession, but 'little thieves' tend to get into everything to become 'big thieves' like Google.

Your use of the term "greedy" indicates a vast ignorance of business. Your use of 'most' to allow damage to 'all' indicates a very low economic status. Should you acquire some economic resources and attempt to retain them, you will find your 'opinion' of other people's/businesses' methods change.

and just btw, your use of "They'd have you think pirates are bad too." indicates poor trolling technique. When you troll, you must maintain a reasonable intellectual level to the group you are posting.

Of course I want stuff for Free, that's called Freedom ;). That's not to say I don't pay for stuff.

I'm not trolling in regards to pirates lol. Haven't you seen the destruction wrought by the MPAA/RIAA and all the other similar groups? These days the police would rather break into your house with a SWAT team to catch you illegally downloading a movie, but don't have enough resources to solve rape and murder cases lol. To speak nothing of the constant erosion of internet freedoms, thanks to these same people lobbying politicians.

Given capitalism, of course it's strange calling companies greedy lmao. But when Apple doesn't pay its Chinese workers enough as it perhaps should or creates good environments for them, then I'm inclined to call that greed. Especially when the CEOs get a huge chunk of the money.

Yeah well, it's a lot safer storming an illegal down loader's house than a drug kingpin's. You can draw your own conclusions about what I mean by that.

Incidentally, it's now illegal in England to make mixed tapes. So yes boyz and gurlz, the RIAA & MPAA are the tail wagging the rest of this dog eat dog world.

What's not illegal in england ;)
They also use surveillance powers to feed on hardcore criminals, such as those feeding pigeons.

Not just the updates, but Windows and MS themselves. They're unwanted, dangerous, affect many people and are pretty much just terrible. And when a Windows 10 update causes some hospital or business computer to update, it can in fact ruin someone's life. So yeah, cancer and MS/Windows do have a lot of similarities. But hey, let's look at the bright side, at least Windows doesn't have any backdoors or such things, which would allow a state-level actor to spy on people at will and subvert democracy right?

Ah f**ck me...
As I already said, while Microsoft have their issues, they are still not unwanted, dangerous and just terrible. You can't give any solid arguments except small annoyances and call them names. It's not like they are the only company to that spy on you. Every big company does it, not that it makes it ok but it just shows how biased you are against Microsoft, comparing them with cancer and everything. That is not normal thinking.

Ubuntu & Linux Mint disagree. A lot of it isn't necessarily to do with command-line anything or such. A lot of it is to do with ignorance. Many people don't even know they have the option to ditch Apple and Microsoft entirely.
clearly... those 2 are so so good for casual users... :D
ignorance must be the reason they aren't more popular!

Lol, I don't understand, because it's true that they are good for filthy casuals lol. Especially compared to, saaay, ArchLinux, Gentoo and so forth ;). Ignorance is indeed to blame! Tons of people grew up thinking there's only 2 systems: Mac and Windows lol.

I love Windows 10. On my core i7,TitanX,32GB DDR4, 4TB SSD desktop running multimonitors, it's the best OS I've ever had. The most stable OS I've ever had. The best cloud-service OS I've ever had.

The upgrade process and the overall tactics used to force users into upgrading, however, are terrible.
Wow, I actually agree with you on this :)

In reality, both of you are a little bit right. I didn't have any bias against M$, until this Windows 10 sh!t storm hit.

Microsoft now, under the new management, is a far different, far worse company, than it was under Bill Gates.

They are abusing their position in the market profusely, and in a ham fisted, rude, and inconsiderate manner. They have taken away vast amounts of user control with their new forced updates tactics. They are trying to close the system up to a point approaching Apple's maniacal vision of itself as, "royalty who can do whatever it pleases".

This "apology" from them IMO, is utterly meaningless. Their still forcing the same tracking, updates, ads for their store in what's supposed to be a bought and paid for OS. In addition to which, they're colluding with Intel, making such announcements as, "the next generation of processors won't work with anything but Windows 10. That's what I call abuse of power, on a global, monopolistic scale.

Their new CEO, is just pushy, with no discernible talent, other than to copy all the BS which Apple is hated for, and ramming it down Windows users throats. He brings business tactics to the tech world, which are more appropriate for a market in a New Delhi slum.

And yeah, he's more than likely doing this for less than half the wages of Bill Gates, who BTW, dealt with his customers civilly.

Sometimes it seems you post simply to supply us with a laundry list of your toys. It does get tedious.

The upgrade process and the overall tactics used to force users into upgrading, however, are terrible.
Nothing has actually changed, just the promotion of a "free copy of Windows 10", has run out. The rest of their new crappy approach is still with us.

Windows 10 has benefits. Probably the best system they have put out in years.
The problem is it is monopoly, plain and simple.
In the process, they wrote it in such a way that the average person can not opt for something else, like say Ubuntu easily.
They rewrote the way a bios acts.
I am surprised that at least 49 attorney generals in 49 separate states have not charged them under Sherman Anti-trust for what they have done.
The other problem is XP and VISTA. Both of which are valid operating systems no longer supported. That means upgrades for a whole lot of small businesses that can ill-afford to do so. The current printers only work with obsolete systems if they were completely up to date systems to begin with. So once the system crashes which it will inevitably crash as it was written poorly to begin with, then the upgrades are no longer available and the choice is to scrap everything and start over (to the tune of approximately 14 grand) or if you are lucky go into something like Linux based systems and scrap windows all together.
IF windows was going to be fair about it they should have left the upgrades and service packs available so the little guy actually has a chance to stay in business.
Microsoft is a giant corporation. They can do whatever they want without regards to public feelings on the matter.
Tread carefully. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. And all the kings horses and all the kings men could not put Humpty back together again.
I suggest you put those antique service packs back in place and allow all those small businesses running antique systems the ability to stay in business.
I suggest you rewrite windows 10 in a manner that allows multiple operating systems to easily exist including multiple versions of past windows so you do not automatically obsolete and destroy older programs dependent on older operating systems.
That may be the only way you can avoid Antitrust in the near future.

Hey MICROSOFT! I hate Windows 10! 99.99% of ALL THE ATMS IN THE WORLD ARE ON WINDOWS 7! I fought your barrage of tricks for weeks! I want my machine back on Windows 7 PROFESSIONAL!

You know... there was a 30 day period in which you could revert back if you were upgraded without properly acknowledging.

What I hear more often than now nowadays is that it's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission. So chalk it all up to an 'accident' and move on. Personally, I was hardly effected by the Windows 10 upgrade annoyance.

This REALLY WASNT AS BIG OF A DEAL AS SOME OF YOU MAKE IT. It's not like you couldnt go back... sure it was annoying, but with a little google search you could find your answer by either editing the registry, or even installing a helpful little tool like Anti-Beacon (LIKE IT, not IT specifically to remove the update program)

I guess, if you are just helpless to learn and look around, you will be at the company's whims.

I'm sure I'm going to have so many of you quote and reply to me, but I've already been through it all... Yes, Microsoft may have gone too far, but they could still have gone further and they didnt!!! lol I understand that people must complain in order to change things sometimes, but lets face it, a post in a forum on a random tech site isnt going to change anything Microsoft does. Sorry Techspot, still love you guys!

And a whole lot more convenient and self serving, if I might add.

I did not get ONE SINGLE notification or enticement to "upgrade" to Windows 10.

That's because I took the time to READ what an update was going to "do for ME", before I allowed it to be installed. So, when I read,KB-30 blah, blah, blah, was going to "help me install Windows 10", I unchecked it immediately. Still the same old Luddite here, although I suppose if I'd have ever met "Cortana", I'd be missing her. That said, it really isn't "better to have loved and lost", ask any man who's been in divorce court.

Trillionsin
I was forced/tricked whatever you want to call it, into Win10 on my Win7 64bit Dell. It made my computer go crazy including Excel. I used the revert back method from MSFT and got 89 corrupted files, 11 of which were Win10 files left behind and one File in the registry. I’m no computer wiz! I managed to repair about 60 files with a repair from a site called Codeplex. The balance of bad files are things like Defrag, and Backup, plus many others that now cause my CPU to hang and do strange things. Plus a registry file that I have no idea how to fix. It takes 1-3 minutes to open Excel or word now.
You call it minor and just do a simple revert! Well it is not that simple to us non cpu people, and MSFT did the forced upgrade. They know of the problems the revert caused to many CPU’s and they have done nothing to try to repair them – They are CRIMINAL!!! They owe everyone a repair or a new Win7 CD at the least.
Here’s a list of files corrupt on my CPU. By the way, this has taken me over an hour with hangups and one reboot.

And they are still spamming people with bull. Nows its edge spam every time I use firefox or chrome. It wont let me use firefox until I click the box sometimes.

Settings > System > Default Apps > Web browser

Change the value from Edge to your preferred browser.

Its already set to chrome. I think the pop up is intrusive, and would like to make it go away forever.

Micro$lop has ceased being a good software company years ago. Win7 was their best, win8 was sooo bad, I had it removed from a new laptop and installed win7. Now bloated win10 with spyware installed, adverts too!

I have recently installed Ubuntu on an old Dell that ran XP. It works great, is faster than it used to work and never crashed. Once Linux people find out a decent was to run old windows programs that I have paid for on Ubuntu or Mint etc, I think Micro$lime will slide into oblivion.
