Microsoft no longer the Windows company

Microsoft's share price has reached record highs in spite of criticism over Windows 8. Does Wall Street finally believe the Microsoft message that it’s no longer dependent on Windows?

Instead of looking at the company as though Windows is failing, ergo the company must be failing, investors and shareholders are looking at the burgeoning and budding potential in its other divisions.

Well if people build/buy PCs and they don't like Windows 8 they will just get Windows 7. So even though Windows 8 gets a lot of negative reviews it probably doesn't hurt their reveneues too much.

Also Office is just a humungous cash cow, pretty much all businesses use them.

Only major thing negative about Win8 is lack of choice with regard to booting into desktop by disabling Metro, which can be easily done through several third party utils. However, MS could have done better by not forcing people to make the transition in one huge step. Not a deal breaker IMHO.

On the Office, it is indeed an one huge cash cow, but again, the competition range from also rans to mediocre.
