Microsoft thinks you should be using Edge, not Firefox or Chrome, and will tell you why

I have always said it: what the EU did with Microsoft and his "monopoly" practices is far beyond leveling the playing field. Does Android ask you what browser you want, does iOS or Mac OS [in the EU]? Give me a break.

It would be interesting to hear your reasons. Mozilla focuses a lot in true privacy and Microsoft in gathering more data so that Cortana can be more "useful".
It's just personal preference, nothing more than that. I'd use Firefox or Opera before I'd use IE though, that was always a cumbersome browser for me.

Relax, M$ will have the bugs worked out by Windows 10, Service Pack 2, maybe even sooner.... (y)*nerd*

Dunno, where you've been in the past 3 years, but Microsoft no longer does Service Packs. I think them upgrading Windows 8.0 to 8.1 and then releasing a small but very important update in GDR1, Update 1 or W8.1.1 (whatever you want to call it) should've given you some indications.

^ Yeah, I was just joking about the "service pack" thing. I've been right here for the last couple of years actually, waiting for the "Windows is now a subscription service", shoe to drop.

Microsoft dumped Internet Explorer name, they should've dumped Windows too.

Edge isn't that bad of a browser. But I'm more comfortable using other browsers. I'd need a compelling reason to switch.

I fired up Edge to see what it's all about and it seemed fine until I minimized it and my music suddenly got paused.

I always try to use the built in internet browser that comes with each operation system and only Microsoft's offering is the only one that I have to find an alternative like Chrome or Firefox to use. I'm not saying that Edge and Internet Explorer are bad is just that the lack of updates from Microsoft makes both browsers seems like Microsoft is not doing their part to address problems or needed features that users have continue to request. How long has Internet Explorer 11 been out? Why is there not a version 14 or 15 by now? It leave me with the feeling that they are content with their products. Being content in the tech department will leave you at last place. Chrome have become the number 1 browser in the world in a short matter of time because they update constantly and the updates may just be minor fix or improvements but the fact that they are constantly providing updates means that they actually care. Do anyone feel the same?

That's not why they rose to fame so quickly. Chrome bundled in freeware downloads is how they rose so quickly. It was an infestation across the Internet. Opera (or any other browser) could have done the same, but instead chose to take the moral high road.

Its really fast and you might want to remember the word before chrome.

If only I could forget, I've only been trying for the last 15 years. God I can't believe I'm fixing to say this, I'd rather support Apple than Google. Google is not worthy, if they were they wouldn't hijack everyone's default browser. The word Google does nothing to change my opinion of Chrome. Every time I hear someone say "Google It", my hatred for the company is once again strengthened.

Regardless of how we feel what made them rose to the top and whether or not we like or hate them because they are a moral or immoral company, they done what it's needed to be done to get their products to be used as by many people as possible. That is the name of the game. I prefer Safari since I use my Mac the most but for Windows, Chrome is the fastest and offers the most feature for that platform.

Yep. all I used it for was to dl firefox... but something that pisses me off--sometimes, when I use ccleaner, it tells me that edge needs to be shut down before the cleaning can be completed--hey, I know that like IE, edge is pretty much integrated with the OS (which is why it cannot be uninstalled and deleted), and that it apparently collects info and temp files while I'm on firefox--but why is it sometime s OPEN when I'm NEVER using it?

How many times does one need to have 'mystery programs' which are bundled with many freeware programs 'magically appear I don't know how' before one learns to read before clicking, uncheck boxes and, when available, do "custom installs" where YOU get to decide you don't want extra stuff 'bundled'?? I've used friends' computers and asked them why they changed their browser, etc., and have been on occasion told, "I don't know. it just 'appeared' and does the same thing as the old one--and I don't know how to change it back". I believe THEY are the 'silent majority' of chrome users... haha. google infiltrates, collects and knows ALL. that's why I use startpage and disconnect as search providers--THEY use google and give me the results. no tracking of me, my isp or anything...

Google/Chrome are annoying with their selective search results and political agenda. I'd be using Edge right now if it had Plug-ins. I need AdBlocker and Dashlane.

can live without dashlane, but not having any sort of AdBlocker is the partystopper for me.

This might be the dumbest article ever.
Next up "Ford thinks you should be using a product. Not a Chevy or Honda!"
