  1. Microsoft has released a new photo-editing app designed specifically for selfies. The iOS app - called Microsoft Selfie - uses intelligent processing to help users edit their images like a professional.

According to Microsoft, the app “takes age, gender, skin tone, lighting, and many other variables into account, applies different models automatically and finishes enhancement with just a single click. Users can transform average photos into more presentable portraits in seconds.”

Some of the 14 filters available in the app include ‘Cool’ and ‘1965,’ and can have their effects adjusted using a slider. Microsoft Selfie’s App Store description claims its key features are noise reduction, intelligent enhancement, automatic exposure, and color theme.

It’s likely that Microsoft may be using some of the age and emotion recognition technology from its other experimental programs in the application. The algorithm that the app uses will apparently make your photo appear like it was taken by a professional.

It may be selfie-focused, but the app can also be used on images already on your camera roll. Moreover, it will clean up and improve the quality of photos taken with the rear-facing camera, so you’re not limited to using Microsoft's app with selfies.

Unlike many similar apps, you can’t link Microsoft Selfie to any social networks such as Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Any edited images you want to show off have to be saved and then shared from within another app.

It’s hard to imagine Microsoft Selfie reaching the number one position in the app chart; user reviews say it does the job its meant to do very well, but there’s nothing that makes it really stand out from the many other similar photo-editing applications. In all likelihood, Microsoft will mainly see the free app as a way to further test its machine learning, AI and image recognition technologies.

Not the type the app I'd be breaking my neck to download even if I was an Apple user.

ROFL .... yeah, somehow I see this as about as modest as those people that buy those long selfie poles because they either don't have any friends willing to take a picture of them or perhaps they are just too ashamed that they want multiple images of themselves to adore.
