Marcus “Notch” Persson, the creator of the wildly popular Minecraft, was already rich, but then he sold the game to Microsoft for $2.5 billion. And now he’s outbidding some of the biggest celebrities on the planet for multi-million dollar mansions in California.

Notch is now the proud owner of a $70 million estate in Beverly Hills, California, having outbid public figures Jay-Z and Beyonce. While many believed the two music industry veterans would be moving into the mansion, Persson slapped down enough cash to take it.

Described as one of the highest prices ever paid for a home in that part of California, it has just about every amenity you could imagine. The home is apparently an “overwhelming sensory experience,” according to Curbed. It has a candy room, a showroom for cars, several bars, eight bedrooms, fourteen bathrooms, “apartment-sized” closets throughout, a massive 54-foot long glass sliding door that opens up to the private pool, and lastly, a movie theater.

The value of the home includes everything inside as well, which are things like the furniture, artwork, and what sounds like as much Dom Perignon as you could drink. Not to mention the pre-filled candy towers seen on Persson’s tweet below.

While certainly one of the more expensive pieces of real estate available in what is already a very pricey neighborhood, the $70 million value is but a tiny fraction of the cash Persson picked up for Minecraft.

I'm all for multimillion-dollar homes, but, if you're going to out bid someone, out bid them on an abode aesthetically worth the minimum bid increase. As a Friday night multimillionaire, I can say with confidence I would have let Jay-Z have this one.

Sheesh, get a piece of ground and have your own home built for 5 Million. It would be worth far more than this.

I dunno it has its upsides, clearly he has thought its an easy wipe down with a mop after a night of cocaine and prostitutes.

This guy could be broke in less than 5 years..that kind of home request too high maintenance fees, insurance, etc etc..

He'll need a lot more than a $70mm home to blow $1b+. It can be done, but upkeep of that place alone won't do it.

Lets not forget his interest alone will make it so he can afford the upkeep and another $70+mill house each year.... I highly doubt he could blow even a billion in 5yrs... heck even if he tried it would take him more than 5+years to blow 3billion... which lets not forget he actually has 3+bill...

You'd be surprised how quickly an impulsive and financially stupid individual can blow through a few billion dollars: http://www.businessinsider.com/prince-jefri-brunei-spending-habits-2011-6

Let's not forget that he actually earned his money. I highly doubt somebody that is smart enough to make that kind of money is stupid enough to waste is it all.

Could be built for a couple hundred k, if owned the land and did the work yourself... but nice

I know alot of people got their hands in on that deal and made money.

But I seriously doubt you can do the same yourself for only a couple hundred k.

If you minus the cost of the property which is most of the value that is still alteast 5 million dollar house if not more. You also have to add the cost of the items it came with. He didn't have to go to ikea to furnish the place.

He's notch ffs he could have just gone and punched a tree to bits or smashed a cliff up with his bare knuckles and built a house in an hour with the latest creeper conn 2014 security system ... and a pig.
