Missing COMM and LPT ports on my laptop

  1. have a To****a mx35-s114 laptop, without comm ports. What do I have to do to install a comm 4? I want to hook up my LG-8400 cell phone via USB, I have the driver, but I do not have a COMM port to install the modem on.

Will I need a USB to serial cable now?

This is the first machine in over 15 years that did not have comm or lpt ports.
First XP machine not to have PORTS listed in the Device Manager.

...why did I give up OS/2?

Please help me. I will send much good karma your way if you can.

    Thanks in advance.

If the ports don't show up in device manager, a drive isn't going to do anything. Chances are the ports need to be enabled in the BIOS before Windows will see them (then, maybe you would need drivers).

    Thank you!

    Thank you!

I called the supplier of the cable, and he sent me out a CD that installs COMM ports for the cable.

Fastco and HillJack, I appreciate your responses. You guys rock! I'm sending you all my good karma!
