Mobile Core Cuo help

I did some research and found that the Core Duo series is on both the 478 and 479 sockets; 478 being much more common. Is there a difference in the two sockets other than pin placement?

I'm not sure... if there is, ASUS has a special device that allows you to put a socket 479 CPU in a socket 478.

Just a quick google search comes up with many socket 479 desktop and SFF mobos, same for the socket M supporting the mobile Core Duos.

Why, are you planning on putting a mobile Core (2) Duo in a desktop computer?

For a HTPC, yes. Low power consumption but still workable.
