I built a computer for a friend.
I need to test the internal modem.
As he is still using dial-up and I have broadband, I cannot log on to check the modem is ok.
I have seen the tech support guy send a ping down the line to check.
is this something I can do or am I on the wrong track.
Also the modem is connexant I believe. Anybody know much about this one.
cheers

Can't you test the modem at your friend's place?

In Windows, open Phone and Modem options from Control Panel, select Modems, then properties, diagnostics, query modem.

If you have Hyperterminal or similar application, you can also send ATI commands to modem's serial port. They have nothing to do with the graphics card manufacturer, they are Hayes AT commands, I meaning information. Add a number after it to get responses, for example, ATI0, ATI3 etc.
