  1. I have a dell inspiron 1100. When I power up it starts to post and then a screen
pops up saying item in the modular bay is not recognized, it wont let me into bios
to reset boot order, so I can run my UBCD disk. I believe it is hardware related but
    I am not sure

Have you installed any new drives?

What happens when you try to enter the BIOS? What if you clear the CMOS?

1 zen It wont let me into bios
2 I pulled the battery, hard drive and memory reseated all
I do have a bad stick of memory. But that does not explain why I can't enter bios

    geting droped from a server

What kind of internet connection do you have. I had to completly power down my modem and remove the battery to get mine to reset correctly. Once you do that go into your start menu and click on run then type in [prefetch] when the prefetch file opens hit control a and delete everything. this helped me I hope it will help you.
