my old e-machines T2742 has a fried motherboard, (according to the folks at Best Buy). I had a bunch of stuff on the hard drive that I of course failed to back up anywhere. Is there a way I (not a tech type guy), can access and download the data on the hard drive? And while I'm at it I have the computer opened now and am wondering just where the motherboard and hard drive are located. I did manage to upgrade the ram by myself. Thanks for any help.

Did you get the license number of that Emachine.....?

I'm not familiar with the number you gave, but, if it has a PATA (IDE) HDD, you must change the jumper on the drive to the slave position and then install it in another computer in the "slave" position on the ribbon cable. (The connector in the middle). You can usually get the HDD jumper diagram by downloading the manual to your drive at the manufacturer's web site.
