Motherboard Problem?

Hello, newbie here, I have a custom built computer. Here are the specs

AMD Duron x86 999mhz
80GB WD HDD
1GB RAM

I dont know what company the mother board is made from.
I have a problem with my computer when i start up. I press the power button, but nothing happens except for the button lighting up and the fans turning on. It wont start. The only way i can get it to start is to keep turning it off and on until it actually makes noise that the hard drive and everything starts working. Could this be a Hardware related problem? I heard my dad said it was a virus but i doubt it.

Corrupted bios... There is a silver "button" battery on the motherboard. Remove the battery with the AC power cord disconnected. Wait 5 minutes and put the battery back in. Power up the computer

old system huh? replace the CMOS battery he was talking about if you haven't already done so.
