I'm looking at getting a LGA 775 socket motherboard that has support for a quad core. Neither SLI or crossfire are necessary. It must also have the ability to overclock in the bios. Since this will be my first time over clocking, I'm just going to do a little a first. I've looked a couple of Asus, gigabytes, and intels however I'm not sure which are easier for over clocking, and are good for the price.

I know for a fact that Asus is a great mobo company, intels are pretty good too but, i'd say Asus.

how are Asus in terms of overclocking? Also I was looking at the intel 975x chipset, would that be the way to go if I got a quad?

I'd recommend a 680i chipset, my P5N32-E SLI 680i is the dos b****** and supports 1333(QDR) natively....which means your ready for the 45nm Quad Cores (Wolfdale)
