Forget Black Friday. If you are in the market for a new smartphone, Cyber Monday could be your best bet. That’s because Motorola will be dropping the price of the customizable Moto X for one day only to $349.99 off-contract which puts it at the same price at Google’s own Nexus 5.
The $150 discount will apply to any Moto X including those on any carrier, both 16GB and 32GB models as well as the special Developer Edition handsets. Motorola tells us that supplies will be limited and they will be providing more details soon.
The discount makes for a solid deal, especially when you consider Motorola’s customization shop Moto Maker is now available on all US carriers. At launch, it was initially limited to phones sold through AT&T. It’s unfortunate, however, that the promised wood back covers have not yet arrived as those look to be pretty slick based on press photos we’ve seen thus far.
Those looking to spend a bit less coin on a new smartphone this year may also be interested in the Moto G which went on sale in the US earlier this week. The handset starts at $179 sans contract and offers a 4.5-inch display, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of flash storage. In the event you are looking for a cheap handset, perhaps as a holiday gift for a child or someone that doesn't value a high-end smartphone, it’s certainly worth looking into.
