Mozilla outlines three-step plan to win back Firefox users

PAGE CONTROL

the WWW is _NOT_ TV. as a user I want to control the presentation. most importantly flashing and blitzing _MUST_ be SUPPRESSED. Flash objects. annimated .GIF and the new HTML5 Video. Java loops and slide shows:

there should be NOTHING MOVING on-screen

I've seen these same complaints on firefox ills commented here in hundreds of forums that I've visited. I don't think I'm living in another world, but my firefox does not crash. In the early versions I experienced a lot of it but now it's stable. It opens decently, not consuming the long seconds of your patience. It also loads pages quicker now and can maintain several dozens of tabs without hanging. I have several dozens of add-ons but these never affected its performance especially in its use of memory.
There was no magic in attaining this; only perhaps I have the patience of putting in place the tweaks that were advised on every complaints in every forums about firefox. In the end I got the firefox that I want.

Just make it simple from the get go especially with the interface, thats where google plays it well. Simplicity is the game. Let it use less resources, less frequent updates, Simple menu options to choose what you need displayed. Fast launching and make a 64 bit version that is more stable with all the plugins and addons.

I was a long time user of firefox until I found it calling out to some ip, did it every time I opened on to a blank page.

It was doing it even in safe mode, so it wasn't a plug-in & I also changed all the settings in about:config for auto update's & other browser safe search features.

moved to cyberfox 64, still has some firefox issue's as it's base on the same code. but it doesn't connect to some random ip & all the browser plug-ins that I used still work.

the only downside is there is no auto-update check you have to use a separate update exe. But that's not a problem, I just run it after firefox get's an update the dev is quick on his update's so far.

chrome may be better but is that worth giving up your privacy.

It also has a portable version ;-)

No one has mentioned Seamonkey, so I'll throw it out, nearly none of the endless we-can-make-it-better-and-more-like... updates that caused me to abandon then at about 4.x, I cannot specifically state memory usage is great, but I typically have 12 copies open with 8-24 tabs for each occurence on an 8GB RAM mini-ITX (iGPU).
I crash it to do the Flash-upgrade of the hour, it always returns All of my hopeless mess of windows and tabs.

If you want a browser that you can unreasonably beat hell out of, give SeaMonkey a try. Note: Netflix and other sites insist on posting a banner that your browser is old, just ignore them until they grow a clue (Netflix is the Best example of why I use SeaMonkey, it allows me to skip their hopeless new homepage and simply keep my 16 shows' tabs open, ready to watch whenever I sit down, tabs do Not update until selected, etc.).

I've used Firefox a long time ago but changed to Chrome when it slows down and doesn't work with my vpn. Chrome is much more easier for me to use and I'm totally used to it. I just used Firefox when Chrome isn't working.
