MS Backup in XP to Mapped Drive. Any way logged out?

If we're backing up data to a share on a Windows XP Pro workstation (acting as a server) using the Windows XP Home backup utility and the built-in scheduler, is there any way to map a drive to a share that will function if the user logs out? We have users screaming that their backups are failing, and we discovered it's because they're logging out, and thus shutting down their mapped drives. No mapped drives causes the backup to fail.

Please don't tell us to use Backup Exec or some decent backup solution. We don't have any choice in the matter.

Thanks

the typical solution is to reverse the data flow and schedule a backup
late at night when the user is not on site -- obviously requires the PCs
to be left running overnight.

so:
  1. server maps all user drives
  2. and schedules backups in a staggered manner
-- perhaps even over several nights.

your issue: logged off / powered off is unsolvable -- you're always at the
mercy of the user interfering.
