Ok Mike sounds good I will post the logs as I acquire them. Anything to make it easier. :)

Dominic

Hey Mike,

Antivirus and MBAM both came up clean running SAS now.

Here is something odd I have noticed with the......errrrr......network icon deal in the lower right corner. Like when I turned her wireless back on after the scan to post this it said limited connectivity and then after opening Mozilla again then it popped up that it had internet once again.

Thanks Dominic

Okay Mike done with those scans, everything was clean. And I removed the items in HJT that you said too.

Also before scans, FYI, I ran ccleaner.

Patiently waiting for the next step.

Dominic

Oh how can I stop this from starting up on boot.
C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe

Okay wireless connection finally dropped, like it typically had been. I flipped the switch for the wireless connection off and back on and it came back but I am sure it will drop again shortly.

Ok lost the connection AGAIN. So the connection lasted about 5 mins :(

This is the best for handling Startup programs.

http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

Everything looks good. Do you have more than the network issue remaining?

Mike

EDIT: For network and in general tune up.

Download Dial-A-Fix (DAF)
http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix#...C_and_articles
http://djlizard.net.nyud.net:8080/software/Dial-a-fix-v0.60.0.24.zip

Have XP CD available in case DAF needs a file.

Check all boxes on the screen (clear any restrictions if it shows any)
Then click GO!

When the entire page is finished click the HammerHead at bottom to go to the second DAF page.

Here 1 at a time do the below

Flush DNS
Reinstall Windows Firewall
Repair Permissions
Reset networking

Watch for any File not found or other errors and make note as this may lead to the fix!

Reboot retest!

Mike

Everything looks good other than network issue. I will try what you have listed it was just odd because it started out of no where.......

Thanks a bunch for all the help

Dominic

Umm oh yea Vista so no DAF.......

OK this has been going on so long I forgot.

So do the below instead.

Copy all in the box then paste to an open command prompt. Should close when complete.

Code:
@echo off
ipconfig /all >"%USERPROFILE%"\Desktop\ipconfig.out
;Saves ip settings

netsh interface ip delete arpcache

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /release *

ipconfig /renew *

ipconfig /registerdns

nbtstat -RR

netsh winsock show catalog >"%USERPROFILE%"\Desktop\lsp.txt
;saves log of current settings

netsh winsock reset catalog
;resets Winsock

netsh winsock show catalog >>"%USERPROFILE%"\Desktop\lsp.txt
;winsock after rest

netsh int ip reset >"%USERPROFILE%"\Desktop\tcpreset.txt
;reset TCP stack

Reboot before testing.

Attach back the files created on Desktop then you may delete them.

Mike

OK it required Elevation. So delete all these text files from the Desktop and do the below.

Rt click the Command prompt and click Run as Administrator then paste all the text in the box again.

Mike

Okay rebooted! The icon on the task bar shows I am not connected to a network. When I open connect to a network it shows that I am Connected with limited access and that is to my home network.

Going to flip the wireless switch off and on and see what happens I will let you know the results.

Ok disregard my last post lol

Logs attached and rebooting!

Ok I am back up now just to see if we lose the connection again......just how long that takes who knows lol.

Thanks for all your help and patience Mike

Update 1
So far so good but we shall see what happens.

Update 2
Okay when I close Mozilla the taskbar icon shows local connection only. Then when I reopen Mozilla it the little globe showing that I have internet access comes back up. I am going to close Mozilla and try an online game to see what happens.

Update 3
Sorry about that Kimsland. I will use edit next time.....well starting with this one lol.

Update 4
Okay I knew she would have the magic touch I surfed the net for about as long as I could stand 10-15 mins lol. When my girlfriend started surfing when she got home from work the net went down after 5-10 mins of surfing. This is killing me and her lol and I am sure you.

Thanks so much for working with me on this. I can't wait to figure it out.

OK where did she browse to that you did not?

Did she open email attachments? Update something play video?

Do the below.
Run SAS click Preferences-Repairs.

Counting from top do the below:
5-7-9-10-11-13-14-15-16-19-20-21-22

Reboot retest!

Mike

She was just browsing yahoo opened an article on yahoos site. Then went back to the main page and bang broken......

Do you think possibly that her wireless card or what ever it would be in a laptop just is taking a crap. It was fine before we moved and after it has been doing this...... Being that it is a laptop and a few years old I guess we may just have to buy an external card.

What are your thoughts on that?

I will do as you have suggested it will have to be tomorrow in the A.M. and maybe you will have more input on this. God I would love to move our router to where it belongs lol.

Yes clear Router and cable/DSL Modem.

OK so it initially has Limited or no connection. But after connecting with FireFox does the signal strength increase?

After a boot with limited or no connection does IE cause it to connect like FF?

Mike

OK so it initially has Limited or no connection.
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Sometimes it is limited, sometimes none, and sometimes a full connection.

But after connecting with FireFox does the signal strength increase?
From what I have seen the strength never changes.

After a boot with limited or no connection does IE cause it to connect like FF?
I just happened to catch that once I think it was just a fluke.

There is definitely something goofy going on with the wireless device on here pc. I will go over all I have done real quick just too sum it up.

1.This started after we moved it has worked fine on all other wireless routers.

2. Wired connection works fine.

3. I have tried two different wireless routers. Same results.

4. Connection icon on task bar doesn't always match what is actually going on with
connection itself; says no internet while actively searching the internet, says there
is an internet connection but unable to connect.

5. Have completely reset my wireless router. AT&T's router was a brand new fresh
install (still reset it and tried again)

6. Not sure but I think I uninstalled the drivers for her wireless connection and
reinstalled

7. Have reset wireless device numerous times.

8. Have ran the different things you have suggested in command prompt.

9. Have turned off all other programs that have to do with the wireless connection;
FastAccess DSL help center and her wireless lan selection program.

All of these end with the same results.

Either it only connects with local only and I either have to reset the device or pc. Then once I get a connection it only stays connected for a limited time.

or

When the pc starts up it has a connection but loses it after a matter of time.

When ever I lose the connection it seems that the only way to reconnect is either to reset the device which sometimes doesn't work and/or reboot.

Just completed this process. The only thing is my SaS only has 18 choices under repair.

Do the below.
Run SAS click Preferences-Repairs.

Counting from top do the below:
5-7-9-10-11-13-14-15-16-19-20-21-22

Reboot retest!

OK if the wired connection thu the router works then it does point to the Router some.

Can you access the router setup?

If so what Chanel? And if so change channel.

Is there any security on the router?

Do you detect any other wireless networks close by?

Do you have a 2.4 Ghz cordless phone?

Do the below.

Start-Run
type
Services.msc
click OK or hit enter

Maximize to see better.

Confirm the following services are set to Automatic and started.

Computer Browser
DHCP Client
DNS Client
Server
Wired Autoconfig
Wireless Zero configuration
Workstation

Let me know which ones were off.

Mike

Hey Mike,

Well so far so good I have not had a chance to do what is in your post yet. But she is the internet right now with no cable woot. Let me answer your questions though.

Can you access the router setup?
If so what Chanel? And if so change channel.
Yes and I have tried numerous channels sorry forgot that in the list of things done.

Is there any security on the router?
Yes WPA2

Do you detect any other wireless networks close by?
Yes we live in an apartment complex

Do you have a 2.4 Ghz cordless phone?
No 5.8 Ghz

I will do check the stuff you said too in a bit here. And add it to this post if you haven't responded yet.

Thanks again,
Dominic

Ok checked services

Wired autoconfig was off and in manual. Switched to auto and is still off.

Wireless Zero configuration did not show up

OK.

The Wired Autoconfig will not Start until a cable is attached so set it back to manual.

Code:
Wireless Zero configuration not there
That is normal now that I think of it for Vista.

Since you are comfortable with Router (BTW what brand and model) go now and print the status page. Get your WPA2 info and write it down.

Does Router have HW Firewall and is it active?

RESET Router.
ONLY if this happens again turn off Cable/DSL modem.

The following steps are to make sure the router is fully reset. Some are hard to clear!

With Router on, hold down Router reset button. Lights should blink rapidly, while reset is in progress, reset still down unplug the power to the router.

Let off reset.

Leave off a minute, then with Reset button down power up the router lights begin flashing, let off rest.

Leave on until the lights settle down then turn off once more.

Now turn on Modem allow 30 seconds for it to initialize and lights settle down. Then turn Router back on the lights become busy for a few seconds then settle down.

So back to square one. Test it out!

Mike

Here is what router I have Lynksys WRT160N V2.

On side note my laptop works fine on this router (mine is on the N part I think thought). And we have tried hers on two different routers with the same problem. Also her internet seems to be working as of now. I think the SAS repair might have done the trick she has been on it for a few hours now playing online.

Well that was a false alarm lost the connection again. No time to deal with it now maybe this weekend but will probably be monday.

Thanks a bunch for your help this far along Mike and sticking with me along the way.
