I have a sony vaio. When i press the "on" button, the three little lights at the top will come on and then stay on, then the screen stays blank. Sometimes it will boot as far as the vaio logo and then either freeze or go blank. I used to be able to turn it off and on till it came to the windows screen, but it doesnt do this anymore. Can someone tell me what they think is the problem?

I think Power Supply
Even though you get power, the power supply may still be giving incorrect voltages

But do the voltage disperse thing first (as a hopeful test)
  • Pull out all the power
  • Hold down the power on switch for 30 secs
  • Put the power cord back in
  • Turn on

This didnt work. If you have any other suggestions, let me know. Thanks!

Unplug all external devices (this can be as simple as a faulty keyboard)

I'd suggest that you also, remove the side cover (Being aware of the service manual precations, and having hardware experience) And reseat all cables, plugs. It's also advisable to remove all internal dust/debri inside.
I'd also suggest, re-seating the ram cards (this is most likely the fault -Ram).
