Welcome to techspot!

As PhilC2005 has asked, a list of details for your computer would help a lot.

Are you able to boot into "safe mode" without rebooting?

Can you boot into your BIOS to check your CPU temps?

I had the same problem and all I could do is get into my bios. If I tried to boot into safe mode it would restart and if I tried installing XP again it came up with an error message and I was back to where I started.

Is your computer dusty? What about your power supply.... I had a problem with a computer once and I could not figure it out, I took the power supply apart and just cleaned it up. Worked fine, and still works till this day.
If you dont feel confident doing it, match it with another power supply and check that.

or it could be something else, but I thats my experience

Try to clean out yor fans. Make sure that your processor Heat Sync is installed firmly, there are times when it can loosen up. Clean the Processor fan too. Dust really helps heat, clean your computer. You could also try putting new thermal paste.(but if it was the cpu it would shut down not restart) anyway, clean it like the other guys and I said.
