I have a Pioneer DVR-K14L on my laptop and it wont read any DVDs, it can burn CDs fine. I cant find any new drivers for it, i wanna try and uninstall its current driver but not even the v.1 driver doesnt exist.

is the problem caused by hardware or software?

Its probably hardware. The laser carriage moves up and down a pair of rails, when it gets worn "slop" occurs and the laser cant align properly. Laser positioning needs to be far more precise for dvd reading than for cd reading so the first thing that happens is the loss of ability to read dvd's.

That's probably whats happened to yours.

I would agree that it is most likely a hardware issue. Notebook drives are pretty fragile to begin with. There is no driver to update since all optical drives use the native windows driver. you may be referring to firmware?
