I recently bought a Q-Tec 550W PSU, it doent really work because every time i install it after about 10minutes, or 10seconds it turns off. There is no volt changing switch at all! So i am confused.

Cheers,

Alex

They are normally 230V PSUs. If you try to hook them up in the USA, it won't work on 115V. Is the setup in your signature for this PC?

A test found: Looking at the units current rating, it is obvious, (and expected), that the 550W rating is based on the peak, (unsustainable), current ratings and not the continuous maximum currents the PSU is actually capable of.
Claimed: 3.3/5v combined=285W, effectively: 200W

20Amp on the single +12v rail is low-end and may cause your AMD64 to fail at boottime. You need 24A to start up a big CPU like that.
This unit sells for UK £17.57 incl. VAT and weighs only about 1.5KG, which are all signs of a crappy PSU. I think you've been 'done'.

You don't get it, do you?
You will need a reliable PSU from a reliable manufacturer, such as Enermax.
Reckon to pay between £50.- and £80.- for a 480-550W quality PSU.
You will just get another £11.- doorstopper if you go that way.

Thanks for the help, i will order a Psu of www.ebuyer.co.uk (very good) for £11, is 500W. So cheers and look on ebuyer you'll love it.

Alex
I don't seem to be able to find the psu that you linked. After doing a Google search, I find that the Q-Tec power supply that you already have costs three times or more what you are talking about paying for the new one. Think about it.

You've got a good system so why no get a good power supply to go with it? Listen to realblackstuff. You get what you pay for.

Thanks

Cheers, i'll get a good one from Antec and see how it goes!, it costs £45 380w.
Is this good enough?

Here are the ratings:

Voltage_____3.3v___5v_____12v_____-12v_____-5v
Rating______28A____40A____17A_____0.8A_____0.5A
0 Load______3.39v__5.14v__11.98v__-12.11v__-4.68v
Idle Load___3.36v__4.30v__11.97v__-9.32v___-4.75v
100% Load_3.36v__4.33v__11.78v__-9.23v___-4.75v

Are these good?!?

Thanks
