My USB2.0 harddrive is NOT recognized in Explorer or Disk Manager

I am trying to access a USB 2.0 HDD on WinXP SP2

It is an IDE Maxtor 300GB PATA133 (EIDE) housed in a Cintre Zdisc Storage Case.

I can see the HDD in Device manager. Which says it is working properly.

However, I cannot see it in Explorer or diskmgmt.msc (i.e. Computer Manatement -> Disk Management).
I expect that I need to format the HDD, however, I can't see it to format it.

Can you Help?

Are you sure it is hooked up properly? Even if it needs to be formatted, it should show up in Disk Management, just as an unallocated drive.

Fixed it...

I contacted the retailer that sold me the HDD.

It turns out that there is an unlabeled horizontally oriented jumper that must be removed.

If you do not remove this jumper it HDD doesn't seem to even spin up.

Now it is working fine.
