  1. An oldie but a nasty... MyDoom recently surfaced on my pc. McAfee has no problem finding and deleting it; but within a few hours, it's back. I don't open attachments to emails and I only go to trusted 'net sites (like my bank, etc).

Question: Can this virus replicate itself after being deteted? If so, how the heck do I permanently get rid of it?

(I've already tried Stinger, AdAware, MSN's Beta Malware dohicky, and of course, McAfee's antivirus program.)

Boot into safe mode. See how HERE.

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE.

It`s probably hiding in system restore, that`s why it`s important to turn off system restore, which will delete all your restore points and anything nasty that`s lurking in them.

Then run your virus scanners again. Hopefully this will get rid of it.

I also suggest you go HERE and follow the instructions in the order they are given.

Post a fresh HJT log, only after doing the above.

    Regards Howard :)
