Need a good antivirus program that works with vista

I purchased Mcafee and thought it would work but vista keeps telling me I have a compatability issue with it. I tried bypassing this prompt then once install I kept getting fatal errors untill I uninstalled. Now I need another program.

AVG free or Avast antivirus programmes.

I downloaded the AVG Free program but how effective is this? I wouldn't mind paying for a program if it protected me better. I would also look into getting a program that includes a package of firewall and such.

AVG works fine. Been using it on 2000, XP for years. And now with Vista. I would not pay for AV when there are some good free ones around.

I have both Vista and XP and use AVG Free on both quite successfully. I am trialling Comodo Firewall Pro (free) for the firewall as well, so far it is doing a good job.
