Need advice and guidance on what to do

I recently built a new computer with:
AMD 6400+ (zalman 9700)
Corsair XMS2 pc 6400 dual channel 2 1 gigs sticks
M2N32-Sli Deluxe wifi edition
250g IDE
2 msi 8800 ultras
Asus sata drive

I first only installed the IDE drive with vista 64 bit and i had quite A few errors, such as sound card drivers and not being able to install 4 gigs of the same ram. I decided to take my old hdd andonly install that with xp but I can't authenticate it. I've got one extra sata hdd. I built this as a Christmas gift but I dont want to get rid of all the music on the old hdd. What should I do? Buy vista 32 bit and install that'd on the blank hdd, its a gift so I need to do this before Xmas time. Thanks!!

If it works with XP then just call Microsoft to Activate it. It's automated and easy if it's a legit copy of XP.

You can also activate XP over the internet if that is possible for you to do.

If it won't activate because the key has been used on another pc before, but oyu ave purchased your license key, let me know

yeah I meant activate. I can get on Internet explored but I can't connect via Internet
