Need help applying a hard disk image in windows 2k pro

  1. i have a backed up hdd image, i want to restore it to my secondary hdd, the image is 6gigs and the hdd is 40gigs. how would i do this? its just a regular .img file, and when im done i want it to restore the image and also have the rest of the 40 gig hdd open for use.

    any help would be appreciated

    quick edit: the file was made with the dd linux command

    You can use Linux and dd no problem :) Just boot Knoppix and dd away.

    Other than that, the only thing that is remotely suitable for disk editing in WIndows is the dskprobe utiliy in the support tools pack. This allows you do edit hard drives directly.
