need help to upgrade a Dell computer

Hi I was just wondering if u can even upgrade a Dell Dimension 1100 With a new video card. but it only has PCI... also wondering what would be the best PCI card to buy for gaming?(To run the sims 2) With in around $100 or so canadian...

thanks

I agree...the FX5500 is probably your best bet considering price and all that. Too bad that card is out of stock right now...

Several people in forums say that the FX5500 runs SIMS 2 quite well

I heard that u cant disable the intergraded video card on dells is this true?

I can find a GF 5500 256 mb on ebay for around $80 but the radeon 9250 256 goes for like $100

I don't think so. And don't bother buying the 9250. It has a 64-bit interface and would get raped by a 128MB FX5500. So i suggest u get the FX5500. Happy gaming! :grinthumb

Yeah the 9250 doesn't run BF2 at all. Plus it has full 3D API support only for DX8 while the FX5500 has DX9. And it supports OpenGL 1.5 versus the 9250's v1.3

MY friend dropped a 5500 256mb pci card into a year ago and he gets good FPS in WoW, CS 1.6, HL2, d2 and other games. Its a very good bang for buck, you can easily disable integrated graphics if you push F10 i think on dells on bootup and go into the bios.

I can run sims 2 along with just about every game [doom3, hl2, bf2] (after graphics compensation) on my ATI9800 128pro OCed to 352~500 with better than halfway decent frames... I'd suggest this for a cheap card.. but don't plan on playing any next gen games on it

He only has PCI...you cannot buy 9800 Pro for PCI interface.
