Need help with my NEC 2500A DVD RW.

I have a NEC 2500A DVD writer in a external casing. I never had any problem when it was connected to my desktop but since I have put it in the external case, it will not read a blank DVD R or a CDR. However, it can read a DVD R that has something written on it.

I have played with the jumper on the Master/slave/CS but it didn't work. Furthermore I have tried on 2 laptops but they are the same.

Anyone has similar problems or know whats the problem?

I have a 2520a internal it does not read a blank
check with the dvd burner software you use see if it can burn to it
or at least id that the drive is there

So that I can burn it. How am I suppose to burn it when the drive is not showing that there is a DVD R in it??

Nero will detect the blank media but Window will warn me my SP2 may not work with my Nero but I tried anyway and in the end the burning process failed. Although Nero is able to detect the blank media, my "My Computer" will not.

I have found DVD's to be very sensitive in comparison to CD's.I think your best bet it to try some basic trouble shooting since the DVD's used to work.
Check the info tool in Nero to make sure ASPI is not corrupted.
You can remove the upper and lower filters in the registry.(you have to check Micrososft knowledge base or Nero for instructions)
Check the setting in Nero that controls remembering Drive paths.
Do not use Cable Select on the drives IDE connection.
You might try a different brand of Media, but I realize you had a working brand.
Get back to us with what you find.

Make sure Windows writing software is turned off.
Then remove the upper and lower filters as I described earlier.
Nero does say to turn off DMA in troublshooting ,but I have never had to .However the loss in speed is less disturbing than the inability to write.
You may want to upgrade Nero to 6.6 I know it is a big download but I noticed some minor changes.
Which firmware is on the drive?
