Need help with Windows Updates that won't install

I've been trying to install some updates that microsoft says I need and
they won't install after they download.

Most of the updates are .Net for 2 & 3.5 and maybe some others.

I turn off the computer & the updates look like there installing but
they don't & windows reminds me again & it starts all over.

Could either of these be possible?

This issue may occur because your Wups2.dll file that is included in the latest version of Windows Update is not installed correctly.

Either the registry entries that correspond to the Wups2.dll file are missing after a repair install or other install or update of Windows XP, and the release version of Windows XP did not contain the Windows Update software.

Or registry entries that correspond to Windows Update are changed back to the Windows XP SP2 version if you did not restart the computer before you install Windows XP SP3. The registry entries for the Wups2.dll file are changed by pointing to the Wups.dll file that is included in the release version of Windows XP SP2.

There may be other problems that are best found by doing a gurgle search of Microsoft updates.
