Need more ram

I have an emachine T5026 it came with 2 256 DDR PC3200 chips. I went out and got 2 1G DDR PC3200 chips. After I installed them my puter keeps rebooting. I have tried only using 1 of the 1G chips but it still reboots. To make sure it wasn't just my puter I put back in the 2 256 chips and it went back to normal. How can I upgrade my RAM? Can I upgrade my RAM?

Try using the 1 GB sticks one in each of the two BLUE sockets.

I have one of these machines and I had it running quite successfully with 1 256MB in each blue socket and one 512MB in each black socket. This arrangement ran fine in dual channel mode.

In these boards, the blue socket closest to the CPU must be populated or they won't boot!

If you've already tried in the method I've described, the RAM might be incompatible.

Upgrade "Plan B", might be trying 2 512MB DIMMs, 1 in each of the black sockets. (with the 2 256s still installed in the blue sockets.

These boards will accept more memory, but I don't really suggest trying more than 2GB total.
