need recover boot.ini

  1. Hi,

    Can you recommend a tool that I can use to restore my erased boot.ini file on my laptop internal hdd? I can't boot computer now so I need a tool that will be able to boot itself and restore.

    Could you post the exact error you get when you try to boot please?

    Assuming you have an Xp disk, the process should be quite easy.

    Just get into the Recovery console:

    And I think typing "fixboot" one you are in the recovery console should be all you need to repair that. If not, here's a slighly more complicated way of going about things:

    the main problem was I couldn't boot laptop, as my recovery disk can recover OS but as well format hdd, that is not the choice at all. So I had to give third party soft a try, and found active@ undelete. It was able to boot itself, that was vital for me, and then restored the file. Thanks for support!

    If you are messing with boot environment files then I always suggest taking a backup of those files before doing anything.
