I am going back home for a short vacation. I am going to be carrying my laptop. Now, my parents have a desktop with cable internet. However, the ISP has installed a shared cable (i.e. there are no routers or gateways...only a lan wire coming into my house which is plugged into the NIC in the desktop.)
My laptop has a dlink pcmcia card. Is there any device I can use that will plug into the USB1.1 port on my parents's desktop and allow me to share the deskptop's internet via my laptop's pcmcia card? the isp is such that they have pretty much locked the connection to my desktop, so much so that if i plug the ethernet cable into my lpatop, it won't allow me to log in
so i basically need something that will let me have internet on my laptop exclusively via the desktop.
Any help will be much appreciated.
