Need to restore but can't log on

    So here's the thing. I wanted to get rid of a runtime error 53 and followed microsoft's advice changing registry. I can't find the link right now. The problem now is when it logs in it immediately logs off. Please help. Windows XP Media Center Edition HP Pavilion a1319h 2.93ghz 1g ram 160g HDD. Thanks for the help.

    Ok thanks for trying to help but, that didn't work. The thing is we have no access in GUI mode and the only way we can get anything to do anything is if we start up in console recovery but it won't run the recovery tool that microsoft has given us. so any help is welcome.
