We just bought an external Sony DRX-820U DVD/CD burner, it came with Nero (I have no idea which version it is, all it says is Nero Suite). We are running Windows XP.
We haven't even attempted a DVD burn yet, but, when we try to make either a data disc or an audio cd from things on the hard drive, it completely freezes up the computer, so much so that the entire power strip needs to be shut down!

I did manage to burn a cd using Windows Media player, so I don't think that it's the actual burner.

Any suggestions, before I pull all my hair out?

(Please speak in "dumb" terms, neither of us are all that computer savvy  )

    Thanks!
