Networking scanner?

How do we share scanner across network like printer does? I've did the research and came across http://www.remote-scan.com/remotescan-purchase.php but I do not intense to spend money just to share scanner between computers, or there are none other way?

I`ve googled and alta visted.About the only suggestion any one comes up
with,is the program that your trying to avoid buying.
